Mary Gillespie of Clifton Park summarizes the results of her total hip
replacement in one word - "Wow!"
Mary, a nurse practitioner who is on her feet and walking extensively in
her job, had severe osteoarthritis. For 15 years her condition kept
getting progressively worse until she developed a significant limp and
was learning to bear the pain. In February 2009, her doctor, Richard
D'Ascoli, M.D., recommended a total hip replacement at Ellis Hospital.
Mary marvels at the difference it has made: "It's amazing. There was no
more pain, no more limp. I would walk up to people and they'd say they
didn't realize I was so tall."
The pre-admission testing, OR staff, anesthesia team, orthopedic
physician assistants and post-op nursing care at Ellis was great - it
was a very positive experience."
Ellis Hospital has been an area leader in orthopedic medicine for more
than 50 years. Ellis was ranked among the top 5% of hospitals
nationwide for overall orthopedic services in 2009 by HealthGrades,
a leading national health care ratings company.
