Saving Times, Saving Lives

Greg PetraskIt was 2:32 p.m. when Greg arrived by ambulance at Ellis Hospital - heart attack in progress. Here's what happened next:

2:35 p.m. - Greg is taken to the Ellis Cardiac Catheterization Lab for treatment.

2:47 p.m. - Greg is prepped and diagnostic testing is completed.

3 p.m. - Balloon is inflated. Clogged coronary artery open. Healthy blood flow restored. Heart attack over.

"It took 28 minutes from the time Greg arrived at Ellis to when we inserted the balloon into his artery," explains interventional cardiologist Robert Parkes, M.D. "That's much faster than the national goal of 90 minutes and is the reason why people like Greg have such good outcomes."

"They were ready," Greg reflects on the Ellis Cardiac Team. "Everyone was professional and comforting. They were fantastic."

Greg says his experience has put his life into perspective: "I appreciate the time I have to spend with my family [which includes his wife of 20 years, their three children and their granddaughter, Ava]."

"Our family has always chosen Ellis," Jody adds. "We will definitely continue to choose Ellis. The doctors and nurses were absolutely wonderful - every one of them."
