Influenza Information - Seasonal Flu & the H1N1 Virus

Medicine has been working with Schenectady County Public Health Services
and other local, state and federal agencies for over a year to prepare
for the potential of a widespread swine flu outbreak.
Vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself against influenza
and H1N1. There are also some common sense practices you are encouraged
to follow:
Good Hygiene is Essential
- Hand Hygiene - use an alcohol-based hand cleaner or wash with
soap and water frequently
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
- Cough or sneeze into the bend of your arm when you don't have a
tissue
- Put tissues in a waste basket
- Wash your hands after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose
- Social Isolation: stay home when you have 2 or more symptoms

Symptoms to watch for:
- Fever of 100 degrees F or higher [37.8 degrees Celsius or
higher]
- Cough
- Sore Throat
- Body Aches
- Nasal Congestion
- Headache
