Community Generosity Supports New Ellis Center
More than 200 physicians, employees, donors, dignitaries and
community members attended an open house in June to celebrate Ellis'
beautiful new nursing home and short stay rehabilitation unit at the
Ellis Health Center, 600 McClellan Street, Schenectady.
The new space is both modern and spacious, providing an improved
setting for the 82 residents and patients. Renovations for the $8
million project were funded through hospital operations and more
than a million dollars in charitable gifts from the community.

The Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center offers the area's
newest, most contemporary setting for long term care. The design,
spaciousness and aesthetics provide residents with both a home and a
sense of community - from the warm colors, lighting and use of wood
and windows... to the arrangement of resident rooms into small
"neighborhoods" each with a name that honors the rich tradition of
Schenectady - for example, "The Stockade" and "The Edison" --even
the Van Curler beauty salon.
The new Center also includes:
- More private rooms than current facility
- Family rooms and respite rooms
- Dining space with kitchens for private family use
- Cyber cafe to help residents connect with friends and loved
ones across the miles
- Larger hair salon, beauty shop
- Rooftop garden Dedicated activity space
- Larger therapy areas
- More green space - access to the campus' outdoor courtyard
and gazebo area
Additionally, our short stay rehab patients will have their own
dedicated wing, complete with more private rooms and a spacious,
fully equipped physical therapy room.
