Junior League Partners with Ellis for Youth
The
Junior League of Schenectady and Saratoga Counties is partnering with The
Foundation for Ellis Medicine to enhance care for young patients at Ellis
Hospital. This exciting collaboration was the result of Junior League outreach
to the community for a meaningful project geared towards youth.
With limited funding available, Ellis Hospital needed help making
its eight-bed pediatric unit family and kid friendly. The Junior
League, an organization of more than 200 community volunteers,
graciously stepped in to provide Ellis with the funding and creative
direction necessary to outfit and decorate the common areas of the
pediatric unit. Members of the Junior League developed plans for the
playroom area of Ellis Hospitals pediatric unit, making it a
welcoming and relaxing environment for the patients - ages 24 days
to 18 years. "The age range created a challenge for us in that we
had to consider all aspects of toys - for example, do they have
small removable parts, provide an appropriate range of reading
materials, or create an environment that is not too childish and not
too old," said Deneen Palmateer, Junior League president.
Ellis Medicine is thrilled to be working with the Junior League,
whose mission is to advance the quality of life for women and
children. The new play room in the pediatric unit at Ellis Hospital
was an ideal project for the Junior League, and will be the first
project in a three-year commitment to Ellis Medicine by the Junior
League.
